About LactaRoute

An EHR built by an IBCLC, between home visits.

LactaRoute is built by Nicole Merr, a practicing IBCLC who runs a mobile lactation practice in New Jersey. She charts in the car, bills at the kitchen table after bedtime, and built the tool she wanted for both.

The work you love, buried under everything else.

You’re writing up a 2pm visit at 10pm, in a scheduler that doesn’t talk to your charting app, which doesn’t talk to the spreadsheet tracking what insurance still owes you.

That isn’t a discipline problem. Most practice software was built for a clinic with a front desk, then sold to a solo practitioner working out of her car.

LactaRoute puts scheduling, charting, billing and the client portal in one place, shaped around a lactation visit: a dyad, a feed, a weight, a plan.

The goal: the note’s done before you back out of the driveway, and you get your evening back.

“I hear the world through one ear. In a warm living room, with a newborn crying and a tired mother talking softly, I know how easily the most important words slip past. Captions are how I make sure I catch every one.”

Big captions, free on every plan

During a recorded visit, one tap turns the live transcript into large type a client can read across the room. Built for Deaf and hard-of-hearing families.

An interpreter in the room

Live captions in both languages: Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Haitian Creole and eight more. $10 per translated visit. They help you and your client understand each other. They don’t replace a qualified medical interpreter.

How it gets made

If it doesn’t survive a Tuesday of home visits, it doesn’t ship.

  • Her own practice goes first

Every feature runs in Nicole’s practice before it reaches yours. The scribe charts her real visits and the portal serves her real families first.

  • Who decides what’s next

What gets built next comes from the IBCLCs and doulas using it every day.

  • The scribe is opt-in

Every note it drafts waits for you to read, change and sign. A practice that would rather not see AI features at all can hide them from everyone’s screens. How the charting scribe works

  • Quotes, when we have them

When a practice is happy to be quoted, we’ll use their name, with permission.
