For birth and postpartum doulas

Doula software built around the on-call schedule, the birth and the postpartum shifts.

An EHR for birth and postpartum doulas: on-call windows with a named back-up, the birth, the postpartum shifts and the visit notes, in one HIPAA-compliant place.

Enter the time of birth, and five things happen.

You enter the time and how many postpartum shifts follow. LactaRoute takes care of what you would otherwise have to remember at 4 a.m.

  • The on-call window closes

At the time of birth, not the time you got around to it.

  • A place opens in your caseload

You say how many births you carry at once; the count goes down by one.

  • Your back-up can stand down

She gets an email that the family has delivered. If it can’t go, the window says so, with a button to try again.

  • The postpartum series is waiting

Four shifts to book, counting down as you book them. Nothing is booked behind your back.

  • Your mentee’s birth is counted

If the doula on call is working toward certification, the birth goes on her record.

The on-call board

Who is covering tonight, in one look.

Plan the on-call schedule a season ahead, day by day. See which families are near their due date, with their numbers to hand, and which doula is at a birth right now. When someone has to step out, hand the family over and the cover never has a gap.

From the first call to the last postpartum visit.

Questions

Is there a separate plan for doulas?

No. Doulas use the same plans as every LactaRoute practice, and you can start free with no card. See pricing.

Can a team of doulas share call?

Yes. Each family has an on-call window with a named back-up, the on-call schedule is planned day by day, and a family can be handed to another doula without a gap. LactaRoute does not text anyone when labor starts; the family calls you as they always have, and the board shows who that is tonight.

I’m a doula and an IBCLC. Do I need two accounts?

No. Mark yourself a doula on your profile, and the on-call board joins your lactation visits in the same account.

Can I screen for postpartum depression?

Yes. Families can complete the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) with their intake. It is scored with the standard bands as it comes in, and any answer to the self-harm question is flagged on its own, whatever the total.

Can I bill insurance for doula services?

The doula codes are built in (S9001, T1032, T1033 and 99501), and timed codes count their 15-minute units from the hours you logged. Submit insurance claims through your clearinghouse, or give the family a superbill in one click. Whether a payer covers doula care depends on your state and their plan.

Is my clients’ information protected?

Yes. LactaRoute is HIPAA compliant, and everything that handles client information is covered by a signed Business Associate Agreement, so the BAA your practice needs is in place. Read the BAA.
